Melissa Shimmin is an awarding-winning creative/art director with over 20 years experience with retail advertising, branding, packaging, print and web design. She has worked for a wide range of clients from high fashion to high tech, small, niche companies to Fortune 100 corporations.
Melissa received her BFA in graphic design from Pratt Institute in New York City before beginning her career working in house for Macy’s advertising department. Tired of New York winters, she returned to her birth city of San Francisco to work for a number of retailers including Macy’s California, the Sharper Image, the Emporium and I. Magnin’s.
In 1996 she went to work for 1185 Design, creating cutting edge collateral and packaging for tech companies at the height of the internet boom. Shimmin left 1185 to join Mota, a niche clicks and bricks start up catering to woman motorcyclists, where, as creative director, she headed up marketing and product design.
In 2006, Melissa joined Ambrosi SF to work on the Mervyns account, later following the account to Haggin Marketing (now Ryan Partnership), and then in-house in 2008.
With the demise of Mervyns, Shimmin became an independent contractor creating websites, in-store signage and marketing collateral for a diverse client list including Safeway, Western Automotive Journalists, and HotChalk Education.
In 2013, Melissa joined Orchard Supply Hardware as Senior Designer in marketing before being promoted to Creative Manager, Digital + Photo shortly thereafter. There she managed the photo and digital design teams, creating a fresh identity for Orchard as they carve out a new segment in the hardware market.
In 2016, Melissa began contracting for a variety of clients. Currently she’s creating fresh home page designs, emails, landing pages, and direct mail pieces for the Jos. A. Bank division of Tailored Brands.
